CU leads Nigerian varsities in five subject rankings | The Guardian Nigeria News

Covenant University (CU), Ota, has emerged the only private university in the league tables, featuring prominently in Business and Economics, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering and Physical Sciences at the just released Times Higher Education (THE) 2023 Subject Rankings.

Analysis of the ranking showed that the university is leading other institutions in the country on these five subject disciples. Chairman of Nigerian Universities Ranking Advisory Committee (NURAC), Prof Emeritus Peter Okebukola, who announced this in a statement, said it was a cheery news for institutions in Nigeria, coming on the heels of impressive ranking of 12 Nigerian universities.

The former executive secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC) noted that while there are no state universities on the league tables, federal universities with impressive rankings are University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), University of Ibadan (UI), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Bayero University Kano (BUK) and University of Benin (UNIBEN).

Okebukola, who is also a member of the International Advisory Board of THE World University Rankings, said: “In the 2022 rankings, only five Nigerian universities featured in four subjects, but in 2023 rankings, 48 institutions are cumulatively listed among the world’s best in 11 subjects.

“Details of Covenant’s subjects and ranks include Business and Economics (401-500); Social Sciences (251-300); Computer Science (401-500); Engineering (401-500) and Physical Sciences (401-500). An elated vice chancellor of the institution, Prof Abiodun Adebayo, attributed the feats to God’s covenant on the institution.
